Before Control Comes Awareness

Something to ponder:

Before control, comes awareness.

We are not huge fans of the expression ‘mental strength’ at Ironmind Institute and reluctantly use it for relatability; we prefer “mental control”.

A simple yet powerful way to understand the fundamental step in “mental control” is that before you can have it you must be aware of the reality of your experience. If you’d like more substance and info to this point, check this article out – https://ironmindinstitute.com/the-decisive-moment/

Something to practise:

Emotion Identification

From time to time, throughout your days, ask yourself;

“what emotion am I experiencing now?”

Try to put a describing word to what you are feeling at that very moment. Move on with your day swiftly, whether successful in finding a word or not.

Something to pose:

How can I have more awareness when the stress hits each day? Is there some practices or processes I could do in the morning that would lead me to being more aware in those challenging moments?

 Recommended:  When you are considering these questions, think about focusing the answer through things that are meaningful and important within your day. If you are a sportsman or woman that will be your performance; so think about when stress hits in training and how you would ideally like to react. If you are a parent, think about how you would ideally like to react if triggered by one of your kids. If you are a business owner, think about how you would ideally like to react with that employee who has potential to contribute significantly to your enterprise but keeps frustrating you with their behaviour.

Simply put – ready yourself for the stress by identifying it before it happens and having your response already prepared. This will help you practice being more aware when it counts to you and filter through your behaviour.
